Oh Starry Night

 Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'

Van Gogh was born in Holland. At school he always played alone and never joined in the games. When he grew up he made a friend called Gaugin but he had an argument with him and cut off a bit of his ear. Sadly he shot himself at the age of thirty seven. Some people think he only sold one painting and now he is one of the most famous painters in the world.

In P4C we looked at Starry Night. For it we used dark blue paint for the sky, a yellow paint for the stars and black paint for the tree which is sticking up. Next after the paints had dried we went over it with oil pastels and did the town below the sky.

The Jigsaw that is P4C

In P4C we made this jigsaw to show that we are all individual but together we make a team. We also made it to represent ourselves as a class. To make it we got to use all sorts of sequins in all sorts of shapes. Almost everyone used oil pastels as well as sequins. Mrs Anstruther helped us because she provided the sequins and told us to make the jigsaw in the first place.

Advertisers in the Making

As part of Food Focus Week and the Health and Wellbeing curriculum, Primary 4A began looking at different forms of advertising and the way in which this affects our decision making.
After looking at a couple of adverts and our trip to the Sciennes kitchen, where we cooked up some delicious lentil soup, the class decided they would like to come up with some marketing of their own.

And this is how they did it.

"First we had to come up with a company name, soup name and a slogan.
Then by ourselves we thought of a logo, then shared them with our group and voted on the one we wanted.
Afterwards we thought of the advert, then wrote a script.
A few days later we started practising them (which we had to do a lot of).
When we were ready Miss McGrouther got her Ipad and started filming.
We ended up with 9 amazing adverts!"

Primary 4B test their skills as Egyptologists

On Monday 28th October 4B set off for their trip to the museum.

They had lots of fun recreating what it would have been like to
be mummified.

This is Ammut the Devourer.

After the children had listened to the presentation it was up to them to start solving some mysteries of their own. In teams they worked hard to identify what some of the artifacts would have been used for, and who they might have belonged to.

Don't you think Primary 4B would make excellent Egyptologists? We do!

P4As Trip to the Musuem

On Thursday 31st October P4A embarked on their trip to the Egyptian exhibition at the National Museum.

After a very interesting wander around the exhibition we were shown upstairs to the activity room

Rose was asked to help recreate the mummification process. She made a fabulous mummy!!

Katya, Abi and Hamish volunteered to play the part of Ammut the Devourer. He has the head of a crocodile, the body of a lion and the bottom of a rhino!!
Ammut's job was to eat the heart of anybody who had sinned.

In groups we became Egyptologists where we had to solve different clues to work out whose tomb we had found.

Some of these artifacts belonged to real-life Ancient Egyptians!

A special thank you to the mums and dads who were able to help us out.

A very fun time was had by all.

Well-spotted!

A very spotty day across Sciennes today, especially in Primary 4B, who were very spotty indeed!

As a class we raised £29.53 for Children in Need to put towards the school total.

Well done 4B on completing some super language work today, alongside all the excitement!

Soup-er Halloween

Today in P4B we made soup and scones and they were very yummy, although soup isn't always my favourite thing.

I think I learned a lot about teamwork and that cooking is not just about chopping up some carrots, it is about a lot more. It was very yucky when you mush up the butter in the batter for the scones. I was surprised when the scones came out so nice! After the baking, I was very proud of myself! Mrs Noble gave us all a Head Teacher's Award!

Please let me know how you get on if you try them again at home - Mr K.

Primary 4C's trip to the museum

On Tuesday 29th October P4C embarked on their trip to the National Museum to find out more about the Ancient Egyptians.

They learned all about the Pharaohs and what happened to their bodies once they had died. Here you can see a canopic pot which was used to store the organs.

Here are some of the children dressed up as one of the Gods

During the trip the children were also shown some artifacts which they had to find out about. They had to try to work out which Pharaoh's tomb the artifacts had come from.

And here is the answer. Can you work out which Pharaoh's name is written at the bottom of the page in hieroglyphics?
